Bears-Texans Open Thread: DeMeco Ryans versus a rookie QB at home

OK. It hasn’t been a good day of football for fans fo the San Francisco 49ers. That grossness is over. Now we can settle into Sunday Night Football with the Chicago Bears going to Houston to face the Houston Texans.

It’s obvious here, but this is a big, big DeMeco Ryans house. When the Texans aren’t playing the 49ers, I’m a Texans fan. Tonight, they get the Bears, which should be a fun matchup to see rookie Caleb Williams. Last week was not a good debut for Williams, but one week after taking him first overall isn’t enough to bench him. In fact, one season might not be enough.

The Texans faced the Colts last week, got a lead early, and never looked back, even though the Colts came nipping at their heels. I was a bit surprised to see how many points Indianapolis put up, but that’s football.

The Bears managed to beat the Tennessee Titans last week via a bludgeon of field goals (seems familiar). There were touchdowns as well. Williams’ play may be a bit overblown as he is a rookie, and that was his first game. The stat sheet doesn’t look too hot. 14-29, 93 yards and two sacks. He needs to figure things out and hurry.

FanDuel Sportsbook has the Texans favored by 5.5 points. I have no problem taking the Bears and the points here. I also have no issue betting the under 44.5. Low scoring game with a lot of slop is what I’m expecting. And defense. Lots of DeMeco defense. I think the Texans will win this but within 4 points.

The one thing I feel more confident about is the over-under of 48.5. Bet the under in this one. It may go a point or two over, but I feel pretty good about this game being around 46 points when it’s all said and done.

As far as prop bets, I’m not really comfortable with anything tonight. This game could go completely against what we expect (maybe the Bears do win?), given how Week 2 can be weird.
