We’re about 90 minutes away from the San Francisco 49ers’ first road game of the season as they take on the Minnesota Vikings, a team they have not beaten on the road in 30 years.
One of the corresponding moves the 49ers made after placing Christian McCaffrey on the Injured Reserve on Saturday was elevating safety Tracy Walker III to the active roster. Walker did not play a defensive or special teams snap last year.
No changes to the inactive list in Week 2 for the Niners:
S Talanoa Hufanga (knee)
QB Josh Dobbs (emergency QB)
CB Darrell Luter
G Ben Bartch
LB Dee Winters
No Hufanga means another start for George Odum. I’ll be interested to see if the Vikings target Odum in coverage and try to get him isolated down the field or 1-on-1 in space.
It’s evident that the team likes Luter, who missed most of last season with an injury. He has the frame and skill set to keep around, especially with how quickly injuries can happen.
Aaron Banks is active and off the injury report, which means there’s no need for Bartch to be on the active roster. Banks left the third quarter of Week 1 with an injury, so there was some concern he might miss today.
