Arkansas Man Faces Competency Evaluation After Alleged X-Acto Knife Attack on Co-Worker and Attempted Murder

Incident at Kum & Go Leaves Woman Severely Injured; Pletcher Charged with Attempted Murder

A 33-year-old Arkansas man named Samuel Pletcher is set to undergo a competency evaluation following his arrest last month for allegedly stabbing a female co-worker in the face with an X-Acto knife and attempted murder. This assessment will determine if Pletcher understands the charges against him and if he can proceed with the court process. The court ordered this examination on July 16. According to True Crime News, the incident took place on June 6 at 12:23 p.m. at a Kum & Go convenience store on West Pleasant Grove Road in Rogers. Pletcher’s probable cause affidavit states that a guy called the Rogers Police Department and said that he had just given his coworker many head and facial stab wounds. The officers checked on the victim and arrested Pletcher when they arrived. The woman’s clothes were completely covered in blood when she was discovered “sitting in a pool of blood” on a refrigerator. She thought she had a fractured jaw because she was pressing paper towels against her face. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital by paramedics. Pletcher was given medical attention for his injured hand before being returned to police custody.

Detectives returned to the convenience store and found an X-Acto knife in the cooler next to a puddle of blood. Surveillance footage from the store showed Pletcher following the victim into the walk-in cooler pulling out the knife and leaving quickly about four seconds later. On June 7 detectives interviewed the victim after she was released from the hospital. She recounted that on June 5 she and her manager had a meeting with Pletcher where he was reprimanded for poor work performance. Although she had supported Pletcher in the past she did not do so during this meeting. Pletcher reportedly became upset, cursing and shaking. The next day Pletcher clocked in and followed his usual routine of picking up a soda. However, he then followed the victim into the cooler and attacked her with the knife. During his interview with detectives Pletcher admitted to stabbing the woman but then opted to “plead the Fifth.” Following his arrest on June 6 Pletcher was charged with attempted murder. The court’s decision to have him undergo a competency evaluation is crucial in determining the next steps in the legal process.
