Empowering 200 Families with Guaranteed Basic Income Program
According to the report of The Somerville Times, Mayor Katjana Ballantyne of Somerville has joined a group of over 100 mayors across the country who want to help families. They are part of a team called Mayors for a Guaranteed Income. This team wants to give money directly to families who need it the most. Somerville plan called the Guaranteed Basic Income Pilot Program is special because it helps families with their money and also makes sure they have a safe place to live. They starting with 200 families who are struggling the most.

Empowering 200 Families for a Brighter Future
Each family in the program will get $750 every month for a year starting in July 2024. This money comes from a plan made by President Biden to help with the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor Ballantyne thinks these programs are very important because they make families stronger. Regina Bertholdo who works with families in Somerville schools says having a stable home helps kids do better in school. Empowering 200 families with this program is a big step toward making Somerville a better place for everyone.
