According to the report of CHICAGO SUN TIMES, Chicago is working hard to make sure everyone can find a place to live. Two big housing projects are happening in different parts of the city. One is the Janet L. Smith Apartments in West Pullman and the other is the 5853 N. Broadway development in Edgewater. Mayor Brandon Johnson Office is helping fund these projects along with 11 others. They spending about $562 million to build these homes using different ways to get money like tax credits and loans.

Bickerdike Redevelopment and Interfaith Housing Development Addressing Needs in Edgewater and Far South Side

In Edgewater the 5853 N. Broadway project is led by the Bickerdike Redevelopment Corp. They want to help families who are struggling because rents are going up. They plan to make 90 homes for families who do not earn much money. These homes will be good for the environment and what the community needs. Down in the Far South Side the Interfaith Housing Development Corp. is making a 36-unit building at 505 W. 119th St. This building will have special services for people who need extra help finding a home. They also want to honor people like Janet L. Smith who worked hard for housing rights.
