Senator Cardin Urges Bipartisanship in Pacific Strategy Amid Rising Chinese Influence
According to the report of FOREIGN, in a big meeting about America plan in the Pacific Islands, Senator Ben Cardin talked about how new laws are helping America make friends in that area. He said these laws like the Compacts of Free Association agreements are super important for America involvement. He thanked both Democrats and Republicans for working together to make these agreements happen. He wants them to do the same when it comes to dealing with China.

Senator Cardin also talked about China growing power in the Pacific Islands. He said China is doing things like building stuff and making deals with local police. He worries this could make those islands dependent on China and hurt the environment. He said America needs to be more involved because these islands are really important especially because of climate change. He wants to make sure American military bases there are safe from climate problems. The meeting also talked about what America can do to help the Pacific Islands and work with friends like Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. They talked about making friends helping with money and making sure military bases are strong.
