Know The Worst Neighborhoods In Memphis, They Exists

According to a report from Southwest Journal, Memphis also faced challenges in some of its neighborhoods. It’s a city rich in history and culture, but a visitor must also beware that there are areas that are struggling and in need of attention.

Memphis Neighborhoods that need a little attention

Usually on high ranks for best placed to live in America, Memphis city offers robust economy and diverse entertainment options and most of its neighborhoods take pride in it. However, if you’re a traveler in Memphis, beware of the neighborhoods that seem a bit challenging to live in. According to Southwest Journal, these neighborhoods are Shelby-Forest Frayser, Downtown, New Pathways, Riverside, Walker, South Forum, Magnolia, McKellar Lake, and Fox Meadows.

Common crimes in the mentioned neighborhoods are burglary and theft, but it’s also high in assault and robbery. The city’s police department is already taking on initiatives together with other local agencies to reduce crime. Its residents also help to keep the city safe to live by participating in neighborhood watch programs and reporting people that seems to be engaged in suspicious activities.

Memphis’ most chilling crimes happened on March 2008

The city’s most horrifying crime is known as the Lester Street Massacre which happened in Binghampton neighborhood in March 2008. Police found four bodies of adults and two children in a small brick home. They were members of the same family and all brutally murdered.

The Lester Street Massacre made national headlines and gave a bad image to the city. Fortunately, the investigation resulted to the arrest and conviction of the brother of one of the adult victims, Jessie Dotson. He was sentenced to death in 2020 but that incident remains a reminder to the residents of Memphis that humans have the capacity to do cruelty and the city’s beautiful scenery  and soulful rhythms cannot stop it.
