According to Bearing Arms, At Vanderbilt University, something unusual happened. Students from both the Democrat and Republican groups had a nice talk about guns. Normally, Democrats get more support on campuses, but here, both groups found something they agreed on: having police officers in schools with firearms is a good idea. This comes at a time when people are talking a lot about safety in schools, especially after what happened in Colorado.

Common Ground Found, Divides Remain – Advocating Respect for Gun Rights

Even though they found some common ground, it’s a bit disappointing for some people. Usually, Democrats might support rules like not allowing certain firearms checking everyone’s background before buying a gun or taking guns away if someone seems dangerous. Surprisingly, the Republican students didn’t agree with those ideas. The report emphasizes that having the right to own guns is really important. It says that sometimes people might need to fight to keep their freedom and dignity and having the right to own firearms is a big part of that. The report wants people to understand and respect this right.
