Wyoming’s second-largest city, Casper, with its cowboy culture and oil wealth, is the sixth most hazardous. It had the fourth-highest murder rate and fifth-highest sexual assault rate in 2020. Powell, in northeastern Wyoming, is the sixth most dangerous, with violent crime rising but property crime falling.

In southeast Wyoming, Torrington has the second-highest violent crime rate despite its small population. Wheatland, a small hamlet an hour north of Cheyenne, dropped significantly yet had Wyoming’s highest burglary rate in 2020.

The second most dangerous place in Wyoming is Cheyenne, the capital and largest city. The fifth-highest murder rate and crime rate more than double the state average are issues. Newcastle (ninth) and Rock Springs (tenth) finish the list with high crime rates.
