The DOJ also reported that the FBI took control of “several websites” run by the ALPHV/Blackcat gang.

The gang also announced it will no longer stop affiliates from employing their ransomware on hospitals and nuclear power stations.

The DOJ reports that ALPHV/Blackcat has become the second most widespread ransomware-as-a-service version in 18 months. Global victims paid large ransoms, earning this reputation. The gang creates and updates ransomware, associates find targets and execute assaults, and then shares profits.

ALPHV/Blackcat claimed responsibility for several cyberattacks this summer. One Reddit hack requested $4.5 million for data restoration. The group admits to stealing Namco Bandai’s data. Late in the summer, ALPHV/Blackcat shut down multiple MGM Resorts casinos and hotels in Las Vegas.
