Over the weekend, an odd “pending debit” message showed up on several accounts held by PNC Bank customers in Pennsylvania. This caused confusion. According to reports from Butler Radio, a lot of people faced this surprise charge.

Representatives from PNC Bank explained that the problem was caused by a mistake in the handling on their end. They told customers who were affected that there was nothing they could do because the wrong charge would be quickly refunded. But people who were having problems that wouldn’t go away were told to call a PNC Bank employee for more help.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) says that any strange charges on your bank records should usually be looked into right away. The main advice is to check your statements often for any strange or fake charges and to get in touch with the card issuer or bank right away if you find any.

As this case shows, customers can make an official report with the CFPB if they are delayed in getting answers from their banks.

This happens after recent changes at PNC Bank, where a store in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, shut down earlier this month. The closing is part of a larger plan by PNC Bank to close several additional sites. The bank made it clear that even though some branches are closing, it is still growing and changing to meet the needs of its customers, focusing on finding a balance between in-person and online banking.

PNC Bank said that closing branches is a smart choice that is made after looking at how customers usually do business. The recent event is a good reminder of how important it is to regularly check financial records and take care of any problems right away.
