Tropical Storm Tammy Expected To Strengthen While Moving East of Caribbean Islands

Storm watches have been issued as Tropical Storm Tammy is expected to strengthen while heading toward the east of the Caribbean islands. Further reports say Tammy officially reached the tropical storm status yesterday, October 18.

On October 18, the Tropical Storm Tammy officially reached its current status and is predicted to endanger the northern Leeward Islands with tropical downpours and gusty winds beginning October 20 until the weekend. This suggests that the Tropical Storm Tammy will gradually strengthen as it heads toward the Caribbean islands.

Due to this, according to Andrews, on the morning of October 19, storm watches were issued in some parts of the northern Leeward Islands. Fortunately, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) states that the Tropical Storm Tammy will remain below the hurricane status as it impacts the group of islands of the Lesser Antilles.

Storm Watches Issued

Nonetheless, according to Sullivan, the islands of the Caribbean Sea where storm watches were issued for Tropical Storm Tammy include the countries of Barbados and Dominica, the regions of Guadeloupe and Martinique, and the islands of Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, Nevis, Saba, St. Eustatius, and St. Kitts.

Reports say the storm watches were issued for Tropical Storm Tammy when sustained winds of up to 73 miles per hour became possible within the next 48 hours. Nonetheless, the watches do not include Puerto Rico despite a stormy weather to be expected in the weekend.
