The search for a new El Paso Police Chief is nearing its end as the final interviews were conducted. However, despite the community meeting the four finalists, a final decision is reportedly not about to happen yet.
On September 13, Cary Westin, the Interim City Manager, announced that despite the final interviews for the new El Paso Police Chief conducted on September 14, a final decision is not about to happen yet. Nonetheless, reports say the community was already able to meet and greet the four El Paso Police Chief finalists.According to Perez, the meet-and-greet event allowed Westin to witness how the El Paso Police Chief finalists interact with the public which is a part of the evaluation and the hiring process. Reportedly, the new El Paso Police Chief will replace Greg Allen who died in January 2023. Furthermore, the new El Paso Police Chief will also oversee more than 1,130 police officers and around 270 civilian personnel, as well as an annual budget of $192 million.

Meeting El Paso Police Chief Finalists
According to Kapp, the meet-and-greet with the El Paso Police Chief finalists was held in a museum where around 100 individuals were invited to participate. Reports say each El Paso Police Chief finalist had a station with their photo and biography on display so the participants could talk to them at their own pace. However, the Border Network for Human Rights reportedly protested in front of the museum during the meet-and-greet which urged around 50 individuals to demand transparency of the hiring process.
