California Police Officers Arrested For Racist, Misogynistic, Homophobic Texts Scandal

Several California police officers were arrested for sending racist, misogynistic, and homophobic texts between 2019 and 2022. Reports say the messages emerged as the claims of falsification of records, excessive force, and civil rights violations were investigated.

On August 17, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested several California police officers for the racist, misogynistic, and homophobic text messages they sent between 2019 and 2022. Further reports say the California police officers were exposed for referring to Black people as “gorillas” and bragging about forging evidence and beating up local residents.

According to Levin, the hateful messages sent by the California police officers emerged after the federal officials and local prosecutors investigated claims of falsification of records, excessive force, and civil rights violations. In April, it was revealed that more than 45 California police officers, which is almost half of the Antioch Police Department, were implicated in racism.

Charges Against California Police Officers

According to Gage, K9 Officer Morteza Amiri, one of the California police officers, faced charges of falsification or destruction of records, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy against rights, and deprivation of rights. Another one of the California police officers was Officer Eric Rombough who also faced charges of conspiracy and deprivation of rights.

Further reports say other California police officers included Daniel Harris and Timothy Manly-Williams, who previously worked for the Pittsburg Police Department. In addition, other California police officers from Pittsburg Police including Patrick Berhan, Ernesto Mejia-Orozco, Brauli Rodriguez-Jalapa, and Amanda Theodosy also faced charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, along with the former Community Services Officer of Antioch, Samantha Peterson.
