On May 4, Hartford Police Department officers noticed several vehicles pulling into the apartment of James Ingerson, 52, and Leanne Salls, 40, at 549 Hartford Avenue across Hartford High School and beside White River Family Eye Care. Using license plates, the officers traced the vehicles back to known drug users.

According to Lippman, on June 7, before a search warrant was executed, Ingerson was detained in the parking lot of Hartford Probation and Parole. On the other hand, the Hartford Police, along with the Lebanon Police, Norwich Police, and The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) officers joined forces and secured the drug suspects’ apartment.

A search of the apartment resulted in the discovery of drug paraphernalia like needles, tourniquets, “crack pipes”, and about 2.3 grams of cocaine. In addition, a 20-gauge shotgun was also recovered from the drug suspects’ apartment.

According to Sullivan, the documents filed in Windsor County Superior Court revealed that Ingerson faced charges of misdemeanors and unlawful possession of a firearm. In addition, both drug suspects were charged with possessing cocaine.

Further reports say the drug suspects were previously known when Salls, who was a former prison guard at Southeast State Correctional Facility in Springfield, became pregnant by Ingerson who was serving a sentence for burglary a decade ago.
