Las Vegas Ex-Student Pleads Guilty

A Las Vegas ex-student pleaded guilty to charges including attempted murder.

In addition to attempted murder, the Las Vegas ex-student defendant also pleaded guilty in April to attempted sexual assault and battery with the use of a deadly weapon, resulting in substantial bodily harm.

According to U.S. News, this plea deal successfully avoided a trial for the after-school attack that occurred at Eldorado High School. As part of the agreement, several other charges against the Las Vegas ex-student were dropped.

His court-appointed lawyer, Tyler Gaston, informed the judge that his client’s behavior was influenced by the side effects of an asthma medication, which caused mood swings, night terrors, and hallucinations.

The teacher, who did not return to her job, described her ordeal to the judge, stating that she has felt mentally and physically “imprisoned” since the attack in April 2022, which occurred after school hours had concluded.

Las Vegas police shared details of the incident, explaining that the teacher was punched and choked until she lost consciousness. The Las Vegas ex-student fled the high school campus, but another staff member discovered the injured teacher and promptly contacted the authorities and medical personnel.

Eldorado High School, located a few miles east of downtown Las Vegas, serves approximately 2,000 students.

The Las Vegas ex-student was apprehended later on the same day, and the woman received medical treatment for multiple injuries, the specifics of which have not been disclosed by the police.

The Las Vegas ex-student has been ordered to serve 16 to 40 years behind bars for the assault that inflicted multiple injuries on the teacher.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, prosecutors had requested the judge, Kathleen Delaney of Clark County District Court, to impose a sentence of 22 to 55 years.

However, Judge Delaney carefully considered the gravity of the crime along with other factors before delivering the final sentence.

During the court proceedings, the Las Vegas ex-student expressed remorse and offered an apology for his actions.
