Court Dismisses New York Attorney General’s Fraud Lawsuit

The lawsuit alleged that Trump had engaged in fraudulent activities by inflating his net worth to deceive insurance companies, banks, and other entities.

The Appellate Division of New York‘s Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday to dismiss the claims against Ivanka Trump, stating that they were barred by the state’s statute of limitations. While allegations regarding wrongdoing after February 2016 were permissible, the court noted that Ivanka Trump had distanced herself from the Trump Organization and was not accused of any misconduct during that period.

The court has left it to a lower-court judge to determine whether other aspects of the lawsuit will also be affected by the statute of limitations.

Ivanka Trump’s representatives have not yet provided a comment on the court’s decision, while James’ office has expressed its intention to continue pursuing the case.

New York Attorney General’s Fraud Lawsuit

The lawsuit emerged after a three-year investigation by Attorney General James into Trump and his business practices. It outlined numerous instances of alleged fraud, including claims made on annual financial statements that Trump presented to banks, business associates, and financial publications as proof of his wealth when seeking loans and business deals.

Trump has consistently dismissed the investigation as a politically motivated witch hunt. Attorneys representing Ivanka Trump argued in court documents that the lawsuit failed to provide any evidence that she had direct involvement in creating, reviewing, or certifying her father’s financial statements.

The Attorney General’s Office is seeking a financial penalty of $250 million and a ban on Trump and his family from conducting business in New York. The case is scheduled to proceed to trial in October, where further deliberation and examination of the evidence will take place to determine the outcome.
