Post-9/11 GI Bill Fraud Suspect, California Technical School CEO, Sentenced to Prison

Michael Bostock was sentenced to five years in prison for the largest fraud case involving the post-9/11 GI Bill. Reports say Michael was the founder and the CEO of the now-defunct California Technical Academy (CTA).

The California Technical Academy (CTA) provided technical training to veterans in three cities of the state, including Los Angeles and San Diego. However, the CTA founder and CEO Michael Bostock, 54, was accused of being involved in the largest fraud case concerning the post-9/11 GI Bill from January 2012 until June 2022.

According to Wehner, Michael’s accomplices— Eric Bostock and Philip Abod— were also found guilty of manipulating records to appear as if veterans were completing courses, posing as veterans on phone calls with regulators, and falsely reporting veteran enrollment numbers.

Post-9/11 GI Bill Fraud

According to Kime, the Department of Justice stated that for 10 years, the CTA swindled more than $32 million in tuition from almost 1,800 enrolled veterans. Furthermore, the school received over $72 million in post-9/11 GI Bill benefits for the enrolled veterans. In total, the fraud scheme extorted almost $105 million from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

In September 2022, Michael reportedly pleaded guilty to the fraud scheme and was sentenced to five years in prison on June 26. On the other hand, Eric and Abod are expected to receive their sentencing on October 19.
