In 2022, Google reached a settlement worth $100 million class-action lawsuit that alleged that its face grouping tool that sorts Google photos by similarity violated Illinois’s Biometric Privacy Law. The payout will be $100 for every affected resident which is more than 687,000 people who filed claims.

Fox 32 Chicago reported that the State law requires companies to obtain affirmative consent from users before gathering and saving their biometric information.

Those who were eligible to claim payments from Google and those people who appeared in a photo on Google Photos between May 1, 2015, and April 25, 2022, can claim the money as well. Most importantly you must be an Illinois resident at that time to receive the settlement payment.

Recipients must have been Illinois residents at the time, and the deadline to claim a cut of the settlement was September 24, 2022.

Here’s How To Get Paid

Those Residents who filed a claim can expect a $100 payment from the Google lawsuit settlement.

When filing the claim, Illinoisians can determine an option on how they would like to acquire their payout, either by check or electronically through Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, digital MasterCard, or direct deposit.

On June 2, the court ordered that funds be allocated to Illinois residents that submitted valid claims. All funds should be distributed prior to July 7. For more information, residents can discover more information about their claims online.
