Maine State Trooper Shoots Truck Carrying Explosives En Route to Canada

A Maine State trooper shot at a truck that maneuvered toward Canada despite orders for the driver to pull over. Reports say the truck allegedly carried an explosive device.

On May 29, at around 10:40 a.m., a Maine State trooper reportedly attempted to pull over a truck that was traveling northbound on I-95 in Houlton. However, instead of pulling over, the truck allegedly continued to travel north on the interstate. Furthermore, the trooper claimed that the driver may be carrying an explosive device in the truck he was driving.

According to Wehner, the Maine State trooper ordered the truck driver to exit the vehicle once they reached a point between the ports of entry to the U.S. and Canada. Once again, however, instead of following orders, the truck allegedly maneuvered toward the port of entry to Canada. Reportedly, this was when Eric Paquette, Maine State Police Corporal, shot at the driver.

The truck driver was eventually identified as Tony Holford, 42, of Providence, Rhode Island. Reports say, in the end, Holford surrendered to the Maine State trooper uninjured. He was then medically cleared before he was taken into custody in the Aroostook County Jail.

Charges Faced by Suspect

According to Dev, Holford faced charges of failure to stop, terrorizing, and aggravated reckless conduct. The Maine State Police announced that the crime scene has already been contained and that there is no existent danger to the public.

Nonetheless, the state police bomb squad and crime scene technicians were still expected to remain at the scene overnight. In addition, authorities also encouraged motorists to look for an alternative port of entry between the U.S. and Canada and avoid the area.
