Newborn Twins Were Found Dead in a Trash Bin

Authorities discovered two dead newborn twins were placed in a garbage can on Cleveland’s Eastside on Saturday, PEOPLE reported.

According to Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia of Cleveland Homicide Police Unit, the two newborn twins was found near the 2800 block of Ludlow Road in Cleveland’s Buckeye Shaker Square. The incident happened Saturday night.

WKYC reported the newborn twins were born on Thursday. According to the report, neighbors heard the babies crying late at night but never paid attention because they thought that the babies were crying and were just waiting to be fed.

During the investigation, an unidentified neighbor told WOIO  he heard that the discovery was made by a landscaper. He added that he heard the landscaper found the lifeless newborn twins while dumping grass clippings in the trash bin.

Authorities Locate the Mother of Newborn Twins

Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said in a statement that the Cleveland Homicide Police Unit discovered a 16-year-old female which the authorities believe to be the mother of the newborn twins.

She allegedly gave birth to the newborn twins days earlier. She was located and brought to the hospital for medical treatment.

Ciaccia’s statement says investigators will explain the facts of this case to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.

Under Ohio law, any parents who feel they can’t properly take care of their newborn child can bring or drop the infant off at a local safe place including hospitals, fire stations, and police stations.

It has no penalty as long as they will do it within 30 days of the birth of the child.
