In a courageous heroic act of bravery, a 13-year-old Michigan teen has shared the harrowing details of how he used his slingshot to save his 8-year-old sister from an alleged kidnapper.

Michigan Teen Saves 8-Year-Old Sister Using His Slingshot

Michigan Teen, Owen Burns, 13 years old, recalled how he saved his 8-year-old sister from an alleged kidnapper. The incident took place at their family’s home in Alpena Township, Michigan.

He said he was playing video games when he heard a scream from his sister.

According to a published article in PEOPLE, the Michigan teen recounted the chilling moment when he heard his sister’s cry for help while he was engrossed in playing video games. Initially dismissing it, he grew concerned when he heard her scream again just moments later.

Investigating the source of the distress, Owen was shocked to witness a 17-year-old male attempting to abduct his sister from their backyard, where she had been mushroom hunting.

Speaking with WPBN-TV on Wednesday, the brave Michigan teen wasted no time and took decisive action to protect his sister. Armed with his slingshot, Owen aimed carefully and struck the suspect three times in the head and chest with marbles and rocks. His swift response forced the assailant to release his sister and flee the scene.

Michigan Teen Earns Praise and Recognition

Michigan teen Owen Burns’ bravery and quick thinking have rightfully earned him praise and recognition as a hero. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the strength of sibling bonds in protecting loved ones from harm.

Following the incident, the siblings, who were alone at home, immediately contacted their mother, who promptly called 911 for assistance.

Meanwhile, the suspect sought refuge at a nearby gas station, exhibiting visible signs of trauma to his head and chest consistent with the slingshot attack, according to a press release from the Michigan State Police.

The gravity of the situation sank in for the siblings’ father, Andrew Burns, who expressed gratitude that the outcome was not tragically different. He acknowledged the heroic actions of his son and the potential for a much graver consequence.

Law enforcement officials have since charged the alleged kidnapper as an adult, despite his age. The charges include attempted kidnapping/child enticement, attempted assault, and assault and battery.

The suspect’s identity has not been disclosed due to his status as a minor. Notably, his bond has been set at $150,000.
