Social Media Influencer Convicted For Accusing Latino Couple of Kidnapping in Viral Video

Kathleen Sorensen was convicted for making a false report of a crime involving kidnapping. The social media influencer from California posted a video in 2020 claiming that a Latino couple attempted to abduct her children.

According to Acosta, in the Instagram videos, the social media influencer stated that she was being followed by a couple while shopping with her two children. The couple allegedly made comments about her children before trying to approach them in the parking lot. Sorensen added that the man attempted to reach into her child’s stroller before she had screamed for help.

Social Media Influencer Convicted

An article in the True Crime Daily states that after the social media influencer’s appearance in TV, the police interviewed her again wherein Sorensen identified the alleged suspects in a surveillance video of the store. Nonetheless, the investigation was closed after it was determined that Sorensen’s report was fake. Later that month, the couple introduced themselves in a press conference as Eddie and Sadie Martinez.

On April 27, the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office stated that the social media influencer was taken into custody and convicted of making a false report of a crime. Sorensen will then face a maximum sentence of six months in prison. In addition, Sorensen’s bail was set at $100,000 while a sentencing date is yet to be scheduled.
