On April 13, Governor Gavin Newsom of California announced that the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden announced that he will follow the state’s lead and extend the federal healthcare services to recipients of the DACA Program 2023. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was launched to protect young adults who were illegally brought to the U.S. and provide them with temporary but renewable jobs.

According to Roebuck Joseph, Newsom believes that regardless of an individual’s immigration status, age, or income, every resident must have access to high-quality healthcare services because it results to healthy outcomes and quality of life.

According to Acevedo, Newsom also believes that Biden’s decision to extend the federal health care services to DACA Program 2023 will be an advantage for the immigrants who were illegally brought to the state of California at an early age. This means that access to the full scope of Medi-Cal will include illegal immigrants and all residents whose incomes are eligible, regardless of age.

Reports say there are more than 200,000 recipients who will benefit from this initiative. Nonetheless, it is still important for the Republicans in the U.S. Congress to take action of matters regarding citizenship.
