1998 Antifreeze Murder Suspect in Wisconsin Sentenced to Life Without Parole

Mark Jensen was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 1998 antifreeze murder of his wife, Julie Jensen, in Wisconsin. Mark was convicted twice for poisoning Julie with the substance and suffocating her to death thereafter.

Mark Jensen, 63, allegedly poisoned his wife, Julie Jensen, with an antifreeze substance, drugged her with sleeping medications, and suffocated her to death in their residence in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin in 1998. However, the antifreeze murder suspect has upheld his innocence, while his lawyers argued that it was because of depression that Julie committed suicide and framed her husband.

Nonetheless, an article on CBS News states that on April 14, Mark was sentenced to life in prison without parole. This means that the sentencing for the antifreeze murder came only after 25 years when authorities revealed a letter left behind by Julie stating that she believed Mark would kill her.

Sentencing of the Antifreeze Murder Suspect

According to an article on Fox News, during the sentencing hearing, Julie’s family had implored for the judge to give Mark a maximum penalty of life in prison without parole. Reports say the antifreeze murder suspect was already convicted in 2008 and was also sentenced to life without parole.

However, a judge in Kenosha County withdrew Mark’s first conviction last April 2021 after it was ruled by the Wisconsin Supreme Court that the antifreeze murder suspect deserved a new trial. This is because the court discovered that the letter left behind by Julie that incriminated Mark cannot be used by the prosecution.
