The “Gang of Eight” leaders were given access to the classified documents recovered from U.S. President Biden, former U.S. President Trump, and former U.S. Vice President Pence. This surrender was made after U.S. senators threatened to withhold funding during a pressure campaign.
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has reportedly provided the “Gang of Eight” with access to the classified documents recovered from U.S. President Joe Biden, former U.S. President Donald Trump, and former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence. The “Gang of Eight” includes the top four leaders of the U.S. Congress and the Democrat and Republican leaders from both the Senate and the House Intelligence. An article on the CBS News states that the surrender of the documents to the “Gang of Eight” was made months after lawmakers complained and senators threatened to withhold funding to the DOJ during a pressure campaign. Access Apart from the “Gang of Eight”
According to Beitsch, Senator Marco Rubio, the top Republican on the Intelligence of the “Gang of Eight”, states that the DOJ is ruining their relationship with the committee that had always been good work partners with them. Senator James Lankford, also a Republican member of the Intelligence, states that the committee is looking for ways to reach the executive office of the DOJ.
In addition, apart from the “Gang of Eight”, there are also other lawmakers who have access to the classified documents due to the Mueller special counsel investigation into the Russian involvement in the 2016 U.S. elections. These lawmakers argued that they need to keep an eye on the possible national security fallout after failing to keep the classified documents properly stored.
