The Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program (SNAP) was previously known as food stamps. In order to be eligible for the SNAP benefits, an applicant must first meet specific eligibility requirements. These requirements include the 2023 SNAP income limits. This means that the SNAP has established limitations on both the net and gross monthly income of the applicants.According to Cariaga, to meet the 2023 SNAP income limits, an applicant must earn an income of less than the U.S. federal poverty level. For the gross monthly income, an applicant must earn less than 130% of the federal poverty level. The highest income levels for the fiscal years 2023 had been effective October 1, 2022.

Amount of SNAP Benefits
An article on the U.S. Department of Agriculture website states that the SNAP is a federal program that provides financial assistance to households with low incomes. This financial assistance is intended to help them afford healthy food. The SNAP is part of the USDA, however, the program is still administered by state governments. To date, SNAP recipients are given Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards to purchase for food instead of the physical food stamps before.
In a memorandum in August, the USDA announced that the maximum SNAP benefits will increase. This increase is expected to arrive in 48 states, the District of Columbia, Alaska, Guam, Hawaii, and he U.S. Virgin Islands. Reportedly, for a household with four members in the 48 states and D.C., they will receive a maximum amount of $939. In Alaska, they will receive a maximum of $1,819. Guam will receive up to $1,385, while Hawaii will receive up to $1,794. On the other hand, the U.S. Virgin Islands will receive up to $1,208.
