Domestic workers and undocumented citizens will receive an amount of $500 as part of the Chicago Resiliency 2.0, city officials revealed.
$500 Relief Payments
The soaring inflation rate has affected millions of Americans across the country giving them a problem buying their basic commodities and meeting their daily needs. Aside from this, an additional problem is the impending end of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
This will mainly affect the low-income citizens in the country, domestic workers, and undocumented citizens. To address this problem, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced that an amount of $500 will be sent to domestic workers and undocumented citizens in the city.
According to a published article in The U.S. Sun, the $500 relief payment is part of the Chicago Resiliency Program 2.0 and up to 7,000 domestic workers while 10,000 undocumented citizens will receive the payment.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot Released A Statement
On Thursday, Mayor Lightfoot said, “Care workers are the backbone of our economy – they make all other work possible. As a daughter of a domestic worker, I know the challenges they face day in and day out to support other families while trying to keep their own afloat.”
She also added, “This fund represents the continued commitment from my administration to ensure that our hardest-hit residents, including domestic workers and undocumented residents, get access to recovery funds.”

Eligibility for the $500 Payment
Not all domestic workers and undocumented citizens in the city will receive the $500 payments. Here is the list of eligibility to qualify for the program:
- Applicants must be domestic workers or undocumented citizens.
- They must be over the age of 18.
- They must live in Chicago.
- Their household income must be at or below 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Line.
Additionally, the city officials clearly defined also that a “domestic worker” as a person who was paid and carried out services to another home for the past 12 months. This includes those who offered childcare and housekeeping. Furthermore, two members from the same household can apply for the program.
