According to Blake & Johnson, anyone can apply for the SSI. However, not everyone will receive the same amount of benefits. State governments may add money to the SSI payments funded by the federal government. On the contrary, payments may be reduced if an applicant has other income like wages, pensions, or Social Security benefits. It may also be reduced if an applicant’s household expenses is paid by someone else or if they live with a spouse who earns an income.
