Residents of Yellow Springs and Miami Township in Ohio will be receiving $300 monthly payments for two years. These payments will be under the universal basic income (UBI) program, known as YS EQUITY. This program is financed by Yellow Springs Community Foundation, a private donor, and the federal money provided by the American Rescue Plan Act. YS EQUITY has started its launch last fall when 15 residents from the mentioned areas were selected. This year, an additional 15 residents will be selected again, as reported by Russo.

Who is eligible for these payments?
According to Russo, to be eligible for these monthly payments, applicants must be residents of Yellow Springs or Miami Township. They must also be at least 18 years old. There is also an income restriction that will depend on a household’s size. A household of one person must earn $40,770, while a household of eight must earn $139,890.
If a household has nine or more people, the limit will be increased by $14,160 for each member. Eligible applicants will have to fill out an online application. However, to date, the program is not accepting any more applications. Applicants will be randomly selected through a lottery conducted by the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Guaranteed Income Research. Unfortunately, there is still no exact date for when the payments will be issued.
