In August 2021, a cyber attacker reportedly struck the mobile network T-Mobile. This security violation compromised the personal data of about 76 million T-Mobile customers. The personal data included names, birthdates, phone numbers, phone unlock passwords, addresses, zip codes, social security numbers, and driver’s license numbers. As a result of this cyber attack, numerous lawsuits have been filed against T-Mobile. T-Mobile has not admitted to any error on its part but the company agreed to pay compensation last July 2022.

How much will T-Mobile compensate?

According to Avery, T-Mobile customers who have been affected by the cyberattack can choose to receive an Alternative Cash Payment of $25. If the affected customer was in California on August 1, 2021, they can receive up to $100. For affected customers who had to stop working because of the cyberattack, they can be compensated for a maximum of five hours of their hourly wage. Compensation can increase up to $25,000 for affected customers who have spent money in relation to the cyberattack.

However, claims on the compensation must be submitted before January 23, 2023. Once approved, payments will typically be distributed within 90 days, though the process could be slowed down if there are any appeals. Furthermore, T-Mobile is also providing two years of Identity Protection services to the affected customers for free.
