Virginia has once again extended Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for households that qualify. This program will help citizens across the state, especially those who have been struggling financially.
The Virginia Department of Social Services has announced that qualified households in the state will receive their SNAP benefits automatically on their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards on the 16th of December.
The amount of assistance provided varies depending on the size of the recipient’s family. The highest amount that could be received is $1,691 for an eight-person household, while a single person can get up to $281. Each additional person in a household can receive $211.
Although supplementary benefits have been available for more than two years, states are still required to ask for an extension of the emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits per month considering the public health emergency. Whether or not these benefits will be extended depends on the approval process and may differ in the days ahead. Individuals who wish to apply for SNAP benefits can do so through Virginia’s CommonHelp website.
