AWS for Health is being introduced this week by Amazon Web Services, a range of services aimed at helping life science and healthcare organizations reach their goals. In the blog post on Thursday, Patrick Combes, director, head of technology – healthcare and life sciences at AWS, wrote, “AWS for Health provides proven and easily accessible capabilities that help organizations increase the pace of innovation, unlock the potential of health data, and develop more personalized approaches to therapeutic development and care. AWS for Health simplifies the process for healthcare and life-science enterprises and innovative startups to identify industry-leading, cloud-based solutions across 16 critical solution areas in healthcare, genomics, and biopharma.”
Amazon says when it comes to healthcare, especially will allow organizations to increase the rate of the digitalization and utilization of their data. The tools’ range of needs will be addressed, including core Health IT, operations and finance, medical research, clinician experience and analytics, and AI/ML. For example, on Amazon’s Epic on AWS Solution users can migrate electronic health record workloads to the cloud. The purpose is to increase the performance.
As of this week, Amazon HealthLake is available in select regions. Machine learning is used by HIPAA-eligible services to extract meaningful information from unstructured data, then store, index, and organize that information in chronological order. The software enables interoperability. Users can analyze the newly structured data and make it easier for practitioners, researchers, and organizations to collaborate. In December 2020, HealthLake was 1st announced by the company. It is available in eastern and western U.S. regions, with more availability coming soon.
According to Swami Sivasubramanian, vice president of Amazon Machine Learning for AWS, more and more of their customers in the life sciences and healthcare space are looking to organize and make sense of their data but find it difficult. To remove this difficulty, they have built Amazon HealthLake. The users can transform health data in the cloud in minutes, and the data can be analyzed securely at scale. Swami also added that Amazon HealthLake could also help pharmaceutical companies, health insurers, medical providers provide population and patients with data-driven, personalized and predictive care.
