A strong snowstorm is expected to hit much of North Dakota this weekend, with significant impacts forecast for Grand Forks and surrounding areas. Snowfall will begin Saturday and continue into Sunday, bringing accumulations of up to 6 inches in some regions, according to the National Weather Service. Blowing snow on Sunday could create hazardous travel conditions, especially along major routes like Interstate 29.

The National Weather Service has warned of reduced visibility and icy roads, with the greatest impacts anticipated late Saturday into Sunday morning. Winds are expected to reach up to 25 mph, creating whiteout conditions in some areas. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and ensure vehicles are equipped with winter safety supplies.

Saturday’s high will reach 22°F, with snow likely throughout the day. Accumulation is expected to range between 1 to 3 inches by nightfall. Overnight, temperatures will drop to 1°F, with blustery winds and additional snowfall into early Sunday. Sunday will see a high of 8°F, but strong winds will make temperatures feel even colder.

Looking ahead, Grand Forks residents can expect calmer conditions by Monday, with partly sunny skies and a high of -1°F. Temperatures will stay cold through Tuesday, with lows dipping to -16°F Monday night.
