Laramie, WY – Snow and gusty winds have prompted a winter weather advisory across multiple Wyoming counties, lasting until 5 p.m. Thursday. Residents and travelers in affected areas, including the South Laramie Range and the Laramie Valley, should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility.
According to the National Weather Service, winds could reach speeds of 50 mph, blowing snow across highways like Interstate 80. These conditions may reduce visibility to less than one mile, particularly in open areas. Additional snowfall of up to two inches is expected in the South Laramie Range.
The advisory also extends to the North Snowy Range Foothills, including Arlington and Elk Mountain. These areas will see drifting snow and possible additional accumulations of one inch through the evening. Elevations above 7,500 feet may accumulate over three inches.
Drivers are urged to reduce speed and exercise caution. Slick and icy roadways will pose significant hazards throughout the day, especially for east-west corridors such as I-80. Those venturing outdoors should also beware of slippery sidewalks and stairs, which can increase the risk of injury.
The weather advisory affects Cheyenne and other locations, including Box Butte County and Kimball County, Nebraska. Visibility challenges and road slickness are expected to persist until conditions improve later tonight.
For the latest road conditions, travelers are encouraged to call 511. Residents should plan for potential delays and dress warmly when outdoors.
