Memphis, TN – A winter storm warning has been issued for Tennessee, predicting heavy snowfall across the region. Accumulations between 4 and 6 inches are expected starting Thursday at 6 p.m. and lasting until 6 a.m. Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis, hazardous travel conditions are likely to affect both morning and evening commutes on Friday. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution and plan ahead for slippery roads, especially on bridges and overpasses.
The warning applies to parts of East Arkansas, North Mississippi, Southeast Missouri, and West Tennessee. In these areas, snow and ice are forecasted to disrupt travel and daily activities. NWS officials recommend avoiding nonessential travel during the storm and keeping emergency supplies in vehicles, including flashlights, food, and water.
Road conditions are expected to worsen rapidly Thursday night as snowfall intensifies. The storm’s impact could also extend into Saturday morning. Authorities encourage residents to monitor updates from local weather services and call 511 for the latest road information.
Preparations are already underway in cities across the affected region. Crews are pre-treating highways, while schools and businesses are reviewing potential closures. Residents are advised to stock up on essential items and prepare for possible power outages.
The NWS advises delaying any travel plans where possible and remaining indoors during the peak storm hours. Stay tuned for further updates as this system develops.
