Phoenix, AZ – A significant freeze warning has been issued for much of Arizona, including Pinal County, Globe, and surrounding areas, with temperatures expected to dip into the upper 20s starting Thursday morning. The warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix, emphasizes the risk of damage to plants, outdoor pets, and the unhoused population.
According to the NWS, the freeze warning will remain in effect through Friday morning as nighttime lows are forecast to hover between 29°F and 32°F. Daytime highs in Phoenix will struggle to exceed 66°F, with cooler temperatures anticipated in Globe and Wickenburg, where Thursday night temperatures may drop to 29°F.
Residents should take immediate precautions to protect sensitive plants and pets from the cold. Cover plants with frost blankets and ensure outdoor animals have warm shelter. Local authorities also urge residents to check on vulnerable neighbors and take necessary safety measures if traveling during these cold mornings.
The cooling trend is expected to continue through the weekend, with high temperatures remaining below the seasonal norm of 67°F. By Saturday, lows will persist in the 30s, and frost remains a possibility in outlying areas.
Drivers along I-10 and nearby highways are urged to use caution during early morning commutes as icy conditions may develop. Stay informed by monitoring local forecasts and preparing for prolonged cold conditions.
