Pendleton, OR – Residents in eastern Oregon should prepare for winter weather disruptions starting Friday as mountain snow and lower elevation rain return. Snow accumulation is forecast above 4,000 feet, with potential impacts on travel through Cascade and Blue Mountain passes.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pendleton, snow will begin early Friday morning in the Cascades before spreading to the northern Blue Mountains by the afternoon. Lower elevations, including parts of Pendleton and the Grande Ronde Valley, may see light rain. Breezy winds in the region could further reduce visibility for drivers.

Key areas of concern include mountain passes along Interstate 84, where slick conditions and blowing snow are expected. Travelers are advised to check weather updates and carry chains or traction devices. Winter driving conditions will persist through Friday night.

Temperatures in Pendleton are predicted to range from highs in the mid-40s Friday to lows near 28 degrees at night. By Saturday, the region should see a break, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 44 degrees. Rain chances return Saturday night and Sunday.

Motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel through mountain routes during the storm and prepare for delays. Local authorities recommend stocking vehicles with winter supplies, including blankets, flashlights, and food.
