Texas and the mid-South brace for another winter storm this week

A second winter storm is set to bring significant impacts to the southern regions as the week comes to a close, following the record-breaking snowfall brought by the first major storm of 2025 from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic.

Winter weather advisories have already been issued across New Mexico and Texas as arctic air grips the region and moisture begins to accumulate. Forecasters are expecting significant snowfall, measuring several inches, from central Oklahoma to north Texas from Thursday night into Friday morning. Additionally, there is a possibility of freezing rain and the formation of ice from central to east Texas.

Freezing rain and ice will become more likely on Friday for central and southern Arkansas, central Mississippi, and Alabama. The northern parts of these states could see anywhere from a dusting to 4 inches of snowfall.

Tennessee is anticipated to experience predominantly snowy weather, with potential accumulations varying between 1-6 inches depending on the elevation. Snowfall is expected to begin in Memphis on Friday, while areas eastward of Nashville should be prepared for snowfall from Friday afternoon to evening.

Winter weather advisories or winter storm warnings should be expected in all areas as the system continues to develop. Interstates in the affected areas may experience difficult or even impossible travel conditions.
