Georgia Man Receives Federal Prison Sentence

On Monday, January 6, 2025, Devon Newsome, a 32-year-old resident of Forrest Park, Georgia, made an appearance in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. U.S. District Court Judge Anne M. Nardacci sentenced him to 60 months in federal prison for the crime of Unlawful Interstate Transfer of Firearms. Following his prison term, Newsome will also be subject to three years of supervised release.

U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman and statements made in the District Court revealed that Newsome confessed to delivering 29 firearms, including stolen ones and a handgun with a machinegun conversion device, to a resident of New York in Georgia on May 21, 2023.

Newsome was aware that the firearms would be transported from Georgia to Albany, New York. He knew that neither he nor the intended recipient of the guns were licensed firearms dealers or brokers. On May 23, 2023, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at the residence on Western Avenue and discovered a total of 34 firearms, including the ones that Newsome had transferred.

Additional Defendants Charged And Convicted In The Case

In addition to the defendants mentioned earlier, there are several others who were charged and sentenced in connection with this case. Anthony Luizzi, for instance, faced charges related to federal drug and gun crimes. After pleading guilty, he received a sentence of 210 months in federal prison and a $10,000 fine on October 1, 2024. Similarly, Brandon Bartley, also charged with federal drug and gun crimes, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison and a $5,000 fine on September 24, 2024. On the other hand, Jabree Jones, who violated the terms of his supervised release for federal drug and gun crimes, is currently awaiting a final revocation hearing scheduled for January 29, 2025.

Another person involved in the investigation, Anthony Zaremski, was killed when law enforcement officers executed a federal search warrant at his apartment in Clifton Park, New York on May 23, 2023. Zaremski opened fire and injured two officers before being fatally shot.
