Memphis, TN – A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for portions of Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi starting Thursday evening through Friday night. Heavy snow is expected to accumulate between 3 and 6 inches, with the heaviest snowfall predicted Friday morning from 6 a.m. to noon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storm will create hazardous travel conditions, particularly along major highways such as I-40 and I-55. Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, as roads and bridges may become slick or impassable. Visibility will likely drop during periods of heavy snow, making travel treacherous.

The snow is forecast to begin Thursday night as temperatures dip into the low 30s. By Friday, Memphis could see new snow accumulation of up to 5 inches, with localized higher amounts in surrounding areas. Winds are expected to remain calm, but icy conditions will persist into Friday evening as temperatures drop into the low 20s.

This weekend brings relief with mostly sunny skies and highs near 34°F on Saturday, followed by a warming trend into Sunday with temperatures approaching 40°F. However, lingering snow and ice could cause delays, so residents should plan for extended recovery time on the roads.
