Little Rock, AR – Central Arkansas is under a winter storm warning beginning Thursday night, with snowfall and freezing rain forecasted to create hazardous conditions. Residents along the I-40 corridor and in the Ouachita Mountains should prepare for travel delays and possible power outages.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will begin Thursday evening and intensify overnight into Friday morning, with accumulations of 4 to 6 inches expected in the hardest-hit areas, including Russellville, Searcy, and Little Rock. Freezing rain may also impact parts of the region, increasing the likelihood of icy roads.
Drivers are urged to avoid travel unless necessary and to monitor road conditions via the Arkansas Department of Transportation. Wind chills could drop into the teens, making exposed skin vulnerable to frostbite.
Temperatures will remain below freezing Friday, limiting snowmelt and prolonging slick conditions. Sunny skies return Saturday with highs near 38, but nighttime lows will drop into the low 20s. Sunday offers a slight warm-up, with highs reaching the low 40s.
Residents should stock up on essentials and ensure flashlights and batteries are accessible in case of power outages. Stay updated with forecasts as additional changes are expected in snowfall timing and amounts.
