A 10-year-old girl gained widespread attention on Tuesday when an Arizona tattoo artist decided to tattoo an American flag on her arm instead of the Donald Trump tattoo she had asked for on her neck.
According to Arizona’s Family (3TV / CBS 5), the artist from Black Onyx Empire Tattoo Shop in Yuma shared his work on Instagram. He mentioned that the girl first visited the shop with her parents when she was only 9 years old.
“How my phone is going to sound like after I post this,” wrote the artist on their account @cutzsosa. They shared an interesting story about a client who wanted a tattoo with her parents. In Arizona, it is legal to do so with parental consent, ensuring that it is not forced and that the client genuinely loves the tattoo. Initially, the young girl wanted a portrait of @realdonaldtrump on her neck, but the artist convinced her to consider a more patriotic tattoo instead.
They advised her to think about it for a year and if she still wanted the Trump portrait, she could get it then.
The artist gladly accommodated her request. Interestingly, the client had changed her mind about the Trump portrait. The artist then asked the readers for their thoughts on the tattoo. They also mentioned that they initially tried to scare the client away by quoting a price of $500 for the tattoo, but the client unexpectedly accepted the offer of $80. The artist concluded by saying that this tactic backfired on them.
The post received close to 7,000 likes.
According to the report, in Arizona, a minor can get a tattoo with the permission of their parent. Furthermore, the state does not mandate that tattoo artists be licensed to perform their craft.
In a recent news report, Ben Shaw, a representative from the Alliance For Professional Tattooists, expressed his opposition to tattooing individuals at such a young age.
Shaw expressed his concern about the negative impact on the reputation of the tattoo industry when encountering a 10-year-old child sporting a professional-looking tattoo claiming to have obtained it from a tattoo shop.
