Paducah, KY – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for portions of western Kentucky, including Paducah and areas along I-24. Starting Thursday night, heavy snowfall is expected, with accumulations of 4 inches or more in some locations. Travel disruptions are likely, especially during Friday morning and evening commutes.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Paducah, the watch begins late Thursday and extends through Friday evening. Snow will accumulate rapidly, creating hazardous conditions on untreated roads and bridges. Temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the storm, heightening the risk of black ice.

Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel Friday morning and prepare for potential delays. Drivers should ensure their vehicles are winter-ready and keep emergency supplies on hand. The most affected areas include southern portions of Kentucky and the Missouri Bootheel.

The forecast predicts snow chances rising Thursday evening, with light snow beginning around midnight. Snowfall will peak Friday morning before tapering off by Friday evening. Daytime highs will hover near 33°F on Friday, keeping conditions icy.

Looking ahead, Saturday will bring clearer skies, with sunny weather and highs around 34°F. Sunday and Monday continue the trend with calm conditions and temperatures in the mid-30s. However, lows will drop into the teens, maintaining frigid overnight conditions.

Stay updated with weather alerts through local news outlets and avoid travel during peak storm hours unless necessary.
