Chicago, IL – A late-week winter storm is expected to bring accumulating snow to Illinois starting Thursday night, particularly along and east of Interstate 55. Drivers in the region should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility during the Friday morning commute. Snowfall totals of up to one inch are forecast, with the heaviest snow likely falling near the I-55 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago, snow will begin late Thursday night and persist into Friday afternoon, affecting travel across the region. Temperatures will dip into the low 20s Thursday night, with winds gusting up to 15 mph, which may further reduce visibility. Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time and exercise caution on snow-covered roads.

Thursday will remain mostly sunny with a high of 26°F before the snow moves in. By Friday, cloudy skies and temperatures near 30°F will dominate. The weekend is expected to stay cold, with highs in the upper 20s Saturday and lingering snow showers possible Sunday.

The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor updates and plan ahead, especially those traveling east of Chicago or near I-55. Preparations such as checking vehicle tires, filling gas tanks, and keeping emergency kits are recommended.
