Grand Forks, ND – Light snow combined with gusty winds will create drifting conditions on Thursday, prompting travel advisories across the Red River Valley. Up to two inches of snow is expected, with winds gusting as high as 20 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, snow will begin early Thursday morning and taper off by late afternoon. Drivers on Highway 2 and other main roadways should expect patchy drifting and reduced visibility, particularly west of the Red River Valley. Freezing rain is possible before dawn, leaving a light glaze of ice on untreated surfaces.
Thursday’s high will reach 30°F before temperatures drop overnight to around 9°F. Breezy conditions will persist, with gusts up to 32 mph, increasing the likelihood of blowing snow and icy patches.
The extended forecast shows mostly clear skies on Friday with highs near 18°F and lighter winds. A chance of snow returns Saturday afternoon, with highs in the teens, followed by colder temperatures on Sunday, dipping to a low of -2°F.
Residents are advised to monitor road conditions on travel.dot.nd.gov or through local updates. Those traveling should allow extra time, ensure vehicles are winter-ready, and keep emergency kits handy.
Stay prepared for winter weather by dressing warmly and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak snow hours Thursday.
