Springfield, MO – Springfield residents should prepare for snow and dangerously cold wind chills as winter weather moves into the region Thursday night.
The National Weather Service forecasts snow beginning late Thursday evening, with a 70% chance of accumulation overnight. Highs Thursday will reach 37°F, but wind chill values will drop to as low as 5°F by Friday morning. Roads, including I-44 and other major routes, are expected to become slippery, particularly during late-night and early-morning travel. Drivers are advised to use caution and allow extra time for commutes.
Friday will stay cold, with a high near 33°F and gusty winds making it feel even colder. Temperatures will rebound slightly over the weekend, with highs reaching 39°F on Saturday and 38°F on Sunday, along with partly sunny skies.
Local officials urge residents to dress warmly, limit time outdoors, and keep an emergency kit in vehicles in case of icy road conditions. Stay updated with weather alerts as conditions may change.
