NEWKIRK — The child pornography case against former Ponca City resident Roy Eugene Thompson has been dismissed in Kay County District Court. Eleven felony pornography charges were filed against him on Jan. 30, 2024. On Dec. 20, four of the counts were dismissed on a motion made by the state. On Jan. 6, the court granted the defense’s demurrer and the case was dismissed. Prosecutors announced that they intend to appeal the decision. This is the second felony case dismissed against Thompson in Kay County. In 2022 a felony count of child abuse he was facing was dismissed.

Former Ponca City resident, now living in Pawhuska, facing a dozen child porn charges

NEWKIRK — A court date is set for a former Ponca City resident, now living in Pawhuska, who is facing a dozen child pornography charges.

Roy Eugene Thompson, 39, is charged with seven felony counts of possession of child pornography, four counts of distribution of child pornography and violation of the state computer statute.

Ponca City police report that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received two cyber tips regarding suspected child porn being uploaded to the internet on Sept. 29 and Oct. 1, 2023, from a phone number using Verizon as the service provider.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and PCPD were notified.

Officials report that the videos show children as young as five taking part in sexual acts and or being raped by an adult male.

A search warrant was obtained for the phone number belonging to Thompson.  

Addresses for Thompson retrieved included the 400 block of Marland Drive and the 100 block of Dove Lane.

Law enforcement searched a police only database and found his address to be in the 1900 block of Mary. 

Verizon documents reportedly revealed that Thompson was reportedly using a cloud server supported by Synchronous Technologies. 

A search warrant was obtained for the server and officials report finding seven more child sexual abuse videos. A warrant for Thompson was issued on Jan. 30 with bond endorsed at $50,000. He was booked in the county jail and a bond hearing was set for Feb. 5.

Thompson appeared with his defense attorney Jarrod Stevenson before Judge David Wilkie.  A motion to lower bond was made.  The court agreed to lower bond to $25,000 with the condition that Thompson watch no pornography and not use a computer for anything outside work.

This is the second time in three years that Thompson has been arrested. On Nov. 24, 2020, he was charged with child abuse.  On April 11, 2022 he was scheduled for a plea docket in the case before Judge Lee Turner. Thompson appeared with his attorney at the time, Todd Burlie.  A motion to dismiss the case was made and assistant district attorney Shawna Taylor argued that the charge should not be dismissed. However, the motion was granted and the case was dismissed. Thompson is currently free on $25,000 bond.
