Shreveport, LA – Northern Louisiana is bracing for a significant winter storm set to bring up to six inches of snow and a dangerous half-inch of ice starting Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Shreveport, a Winter Storm Watch will remain in effect from Thursday morning through Friday morning, affecting parts of north-central and northwest Louisiana as well as neighboring regions of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. The forecast warns of hazardous travel conditions as roads, bridges, and overpasses become slick from accumulating ice and snow.
Officials have emphasized that the storm’s ice accumulation, which could reach half an inch, poses particular dangers to roadways, power lines, and trees. The Thursday morning and evening commutes are expected to be severely impacted. Residents are strongly urged to avoid travel if possible or to drive with extreme caution, carrying emergency supplies such as blankets, water, and tire chains.
The NWS advises closely monitoring weather updates and making necessary preparations to stay safe during the storm.
