Chicago, IL – A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Monday as lake effect snow and freezing drizzle continue to sweep across central Cook, DuPage, and northern Illinois counties. Motorists should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility during evening commutes.

According to the National Weather Service, up to two inches of additional snow accumulation and a light glaze of ice are expected by tonight. Gusty winds up to 30 mph may further impair visibility. The advisory covers major routes, including I-290, I-90, and surrounding local roads.

Tuesday will bring partly sunny skies but continued frigid temperatures, with highs near 26°F and lows dropping to 14°F. Wind chills are expected to make it feel colder. By Wednesday, slightly warmer conditions will prevail with highs around 22°F under partly sunny skies.

More snow is possible Friday, with lake effect snow likely in northwestern Indiana and areas near Lake Michigan. This will add to the hazardous conditions for travelers and outdoor workers.

Residents are urged to use caution on bridges and overpasses, which are prone to freezing first. The weather service advises keeping emergency supplies in vehicles and checking road conditions at GettingAroundIllinois.com.

Bundle up as the arctic chill lingers through the workweek, and stay informed about changing conditions.
